HashPort Market Integrates JPYC Stablecoin to Streamline Japanese NFT Trading
HashPort just relaunched its NFT marketplace as HashPort Market | αU, and per CoinPost's coverage, the platform now accepts JPYC — a yen-pegged stablecoin — as native settlement.

The company is calling it the first Japanese NFT venue wired for stablecoin payments, a claim grounded in their own August 2026 web sweep rather than independent verification. Either way, the mechanics matter more than the marketing trophy.
The rails finally have a stable unit
JPYC isn't crypto in the legal sense. It sits under Japan's Payment Services Act as an electronic payment instrument, issued and redeemed at 1:1 against the yen. That distinction matters because trades on αU aren't bouncing through volatile ETH or SOL pricing layers. Buyers see a yen price, pay in yen-pegged tokens, and the marketplace clears in a unit that doesn't swing while you're waiting for confirmation.
The relaunch also shipped credit card checkout, conditional gasless listing and buying, plus a built-in secondary market flow. So we're looking at a venue that finally behaves like a normal e-commerce surface — friction stripped, inventory portable, resale native rather than bolted on. That UX bar is now the floor for any Japanese venue that wants to keep its collector base.
TCG STORE and the oripa gambit
This is where it gets culturally interesting. HashPort partnered with CryptoGames to sell trading card NFTs through the TCG STORE RWA pipeline, with distribution in the classic oripa format — blind packs where buyers don't know what they're pulling until they crack the seal. Physical card exchange is slated for the near term, according to the company.
I've seen this movie before. Oripa mechanics work in Japan because scarcity plus ritual equals premium pricing, even when the floor math is ugly. If the physical redemption promise actually ships, you've got a real-world anchor for on-chain provenance. If it slips, you've got JPEGs with no exit and a Discord full of angry bagholders.
What I'm watching
The "first Japanese NFT marketplace with stablecoin settlement" framing is HashPort's own marketing, so take the trophy case with a grain of salt. What I actually want to see:
- JPYC-denominated GMV in the first 30 days. That's the only honest read on whether yen-native rails unlock Japanese collectors or just add another checkout button nobody uses.
- Whether the TCG oripa drops create wash-trading churn or genuine price discovery. Random pack formats are notoriously easy to manipulate.
- How fast the gasless UX gets cloned. If it works here, expect every domestic venue to copy it within a quarter.
Cross-border digital infrastructure is clearly the next leg of this market — platforms are building settlement layers that don't depend on volatile crypto rails, much like Airbnb's recent push to reshape hospitality infrastructure in Maharashtra reframed who controls the booking layer in regional travel. Same thesis: own the payment and distribution plumbing, and the asset class sitting on top of you starts to behave like a real market.
I'll be tracking the JPYC volume prints when they surface. Everything else is noise.
